The ground finds him first.
You catch the line without a lyric card: “I want you, but the mirror won’t let me”
Low from the stone, legs climb irregular grey-brown flagstone stairs mid-stride — one foot planted higher, the other lifting — outdoor dim light cutting deep step shadows. Face unseen. A worm’s-eye push follows the same legs up brighter daylight stairs, high contrast on the flagstones, sunlit walkway at the top. He crosses an irregular grey patio toward more steps, white-painted brick far right, bright side light throwing long shadows. Wider stairs next, mid-torso and legs ascending under direct sun, orange-white lens flare at the bottom of the frame. Back to camera. Face still unread.
The light eats him.
Extreme backlight — a silhouette walks into blown-out white haze, soft circular lens flares filling the foreground, dark messy curly hair rim-lit at the edges, out-of-focus foliage upper left. A young man with dark thick curly wavy hair stands with his back to us facing that brightness, huge translucent circular flares left and smaller ones upper right, washed trees and a white building corner behind. He walks away across dark grey gravel toward a modern glass-walled white-frame building, tall dark angular abstract sculpture on a concrete plinth to the right, soft figures visible through the glass. After that dark foreground against blown daylight: he stands looking through white-frame glass doors into a bright space where roughly five or six party guests mingle on a polished light floor.
He turns.
Sombr looks back over his left shoulder toward the camera — pale skin, messy dark curly hair, heavy dark eye makeup and eyeliner — intense and serious. Dark foreground. Overexposed glass panes behind him hold soft sunlit figures.
The track answers the frame: “I like you, but my body isn’t ready”
Inside the modern party the floors are bright white and reflective, open to a sunlit patio. Foreground right: a woman with long dark hair, back to camera, leopard or cheetah-print high-waist flared pants, bare upper back.
Next the title card: large white brushed hand-painted text MY BODY ISN’T READY centered; bottom credits SOMBR, Warner Records, An American Film Corporation Production.
The party keeps moving under a faint white scribble overlay of the same title and SOMBR / WARNER RECORDS along the bottom. A man in a wide-brim tan straw hat, black long sleeve, and black trousers stands right-center observing — looks like sombr at a distance. On the patio a man in a leopard-print polo and red baggy pants holds a green glass bottle out toward a mustache man in a black tank with a silver Superman-S belt buckle. Indoors he stands over a white spiky horned plaster mask on a bust stand, left hand on the mask, right still on the green bottle. Poolside estate daylight. A pink short-hair woman walks away toward a group in a white string-halter bikini and yellow open crochet wrap over green-and-white patterned bottoms, tattoos on shoulder and arm; left, a shirtless dark-skinned man in a black cap worn backwards and blue denim shorts. Later a woman with long dark wavy hair sits on tiles looking back over her left shoulder at the camera, bitten watermelon wedge in her right hand, white plate of more slices in front. Solid black. Fade. Cut.
Sombr returns center looking straight into the camera, neutral and somber — pale skin, messy dark curly neck-length hair, heavy dark eyeliner and eyeshadow — framed by shadowed white pillars against blown bright outdoor trees. He looks down right, pensive, eyes averted, white vertical pillar and window frames, bright garden trees soft behind his hair. Sombr walks left to right across the outdoor pool patio looking down and back over his shoulder, somber — turquoise pool edge bottom right, wide light stone steps mid. Outdoor card beat. The mustache man in a black deep-U tank looks down intently at a fan of playing cards. Two-shot daylight: a young man with dark curly hair faces left, looks down, and cups the bearded man’s chin and jaw; the bearded man looks up intense and weary in white long sleeve under a dark vest, reaching right. The bearded man holds a Three of Diamonds up — handwritten dark ink on the face that reads like CAN’T WAIT or I CAN’T WAIT, serious and pleading. Crowded motion-soft: a man holds a Three of Diamonds in front of his lower face toward camera; the card handwritten all-caps black marker YOU DON’T BELONG HERE! Across four lines. Sombr stares hard straight into the camera, neutral and brooding, slight head tilt — messy dark curly hair, heavy dark eyeliner rings — bright daytime poolside terrace soft behind with white umbrellas, pillars, cabanas, distant guest shapes. Sombr looks down right pensive and detached amid an out-of-focus party crowd and trees. A young woman looks up right mouth slightly open in wonder — long dark wavy middle-part hair sharp. Extreme close on the young woman staring into the lens sorrowful, heavy-lidded glassy eyes, mouth slightly agape, small dark mole under the right eye, dusty-rose lips, long dark hair framing both sides into shadow. Extreme close on sombr looking down left brooding, lips closed — thick messy dark curly hair, heavy dark eye makeup, cool blue-tint low key from the left, right face deep shadow.
Cut to the black void.
The vocal cuts through the cut: “But I’m not ready, I’m not ready”
Sombr center stares into the camera intense and somber, lips pressed, brow slight furrow — thick voluminous dark curly hair, dramatic top-front key, heavy under-eye and jaw shadows, pure black behind. Mouth wide open mid-sing or shout, direct emotive eye contact, same black void. Forehead to forehead with a second person deep in shadow — only forehead and nose readable on the other — eyes closed or down, lips slightly parted, intimate and somber, curly hair blooming in backlight against pale teal-white wash. Low-angle lean over the camera looking down, mouth open strained and emotive, heavy motion blur, heavy smudged dark eye makeup, messy medium dark wavy hair wind-swept. Art studio. A silhouette left arms outstretched mid-gesture in motion blur against bright draped backdrop — wrinkled off-white floor-to-ceiling fabric curtains filtering backlight — looks like sombr. He stands center back to camera looking left; a woman with long dark hair in white long sleeve and dark pants faces center; white draped window fabric on the back wall, rumpled drop cloth on the floor. Intimate close: a man’s right hand with a chunky gold signet ring holds crumpled silver foil or wrapper toward a woman’s face; she looks down soft smile, eyes partly closed, dark hair pulled back. He leans forward and down, right arm extended toward hanging white fabric, heavy motion blur and horizontal glitch or tear artifacts across the torso — dark curly hair partial profile facing right, voluminous white draped curtains, mannequin torso background left. Extreme close on a curved surface plastered with overlapping newspaper and print strips — papier-mache texture, glossy glue highlights, printed columns mostly illegible from proximity and curve.
In the studio a plaster- and bandage-wrapped humanoid sits hunched on a white square block, hands in lap, still — mask-like face with hollow dark eye recesses and a blank mouth dent; cream off-white heavy draped fabrics cocoon walls and ceiling tied with brown rope. Wider: the plaster-coated figure sits forward on a white pedestal, right hand on thigh, left near hip, statue-still — grey matte body-coat defines the physique, face coated; left a wire dress-form, dark stool, red bag and tubs on a low plinth. A young woman looks intently off right, mouth slightly parted, tense and apprehensive — long dark wavy shoulder hair, fair skin, dim indoor cream draped sheet walls. Low from behind a group walks away down a narrow white hallway — center the plaster grey-coated figure in a light-grey baseball cap escorted; left foreground a man short dark hair white ribbed tank bare arms; right a man in white short-sleeve crew tee; ceiling recessed fluorescent panels. Sombr close mouth wide open mid-sing or shout, intense eye contact — messy dark voluminous curly hair, pale skin, hard key from the right, left face deep shadow, pure black void.
Night outdoor: the plaster white-coated figure faces camera slight head tilt still; a second person behind places hands on shoulders and upper chest in a hold or comfort; left a large screen or wall with mono projection of shadowy tree branches; right dark foliage and palm. In a car interior at night a young woman looks up right anxious, eyes wide, mouth slightly open — long dark brown hair; soft left a woman in dark sunglasses and sparkly metallic sequin bikini-bralette. Close: a head fully covered in textured silver-grey tape or distressed-strip mask, rough eye cutouts, gaping mouth hole, staring stationary; soft right photographer hands and camera body with flash; heavy blue cyan grade, hexagonal soft flares left. Dark club or venue: the white-powder plaster-coated figure is crowd-surfed horizontal aloft on many reaching hands, body arched facing a balcony away from camera; upper white wooden balcony rail — left a woman dark hair white feathery ruffled showgirl costume; right long light hair pink magenta feathery costume. Extreme close: face wrapped in layered wrinkled newspaper papier-mache strips, cold blue-grey tint, single jagged torn eye-hole with the right eye staring intense and haunting, dark eye makeup around the visible eye. The young woman stares right shocked, mouth parted — foreground left a pale rough-textured plaster statue head in profile close; pure black void. Sombr extreme close staring intense mouth open mid-vocal — voluminous messy dark curly hair, cheekbone and forehead highlights, dramatic front key, deep side shadows, pure black.
Night overlook: a white stretch limo left, rear passenger door open; a person mid steps into the rear cabin back and side, face unseen in heavy shadow — four vertical cool-white neon bars on the limo side, multi-spoke chrome rim, red taillight soft. A woman spins and whips her head, long dark-brown hair flying horizontal right in heavy motion blur — warm orange key on hair and cheek, bright blue and white light streaks bottom right. Dark two-shot heavy motion blur: left-center woman long dark wavy hair smiles and laughs head tilted leaning right; right a man side and back soft close that looks like an embrace or spin — warm orange-gold rim on her hair and shoulder, cool blue-grey on him.
Sombr close stares steady intense, mouth slightly parted — messy dark curly wavy brown hair, pale skin, deep-set eyes, dramatic overhead angled key, heavy eye-socket nose and jaw shadows, solid black void. Two-shot silhouette night: man left stands profile facing right looking down — looks like sombr; woman right sits or kneels profile facing left looking up toward him; large warm orange-white lens flare low between them rim-lights hair and edges, pitch-black behind. Waist-up: man left and woman right stand close face to face in profile; her right arm raised hand toward his chest and neck; strong warm orange low rim-light silhouettes their contours against black — the man looks like sombr. Sombr looks down right pensive — thick glistening gold-hued liquid tear streak under the left eye down the cheek; warm orange directional key left face, right deep shadow. Woman extreme close face tilts up, gaze upward and left, solemn and melancholy, eyes catching light — long dark hair strands frame the face; warm low-angle key on nose-bridge and cheekbone; soft blue and pale-yellow circular bokeh flares on black night. Diner table. Sombr sits right looking toward the woman with a soft expression, right hand holding a black plastic fork over takeout; she leans toward him looking down at the food, left hand on a fork, long straight dark hair. She tilts her head back mouth wide tongue out holding a chopstick high with a long thin green noodle or vegetable strand dangling to catch; he leans in profile curly dark hair watching her face and mouth focused — teal cyan diner side key. Sombr faces the camera mouth slightly open singing and emoting, intense vulnerable gaze slightly off — dark messy curly hair, pale skin, bare shoulders and collarbones, dramatic top and side key, pure black. She looks up at him left profile, right hand gripping the front of his dark shirt or jacket at the chest; he looks down toward her facing her, curly dark hair. She cups his face fingers near ear and jaw looking up tender; he bows his head toward her, foreheads almost touching, curly dark hair mostly silhouetted. He leans in right hand cups her jaw and neck; she looks up soft in near-kiss proximity, long dark hair.
Two out-of-focus silhouettes backs to camera watch fireworks over a night city — taller center right, shorter left center, both facing the horizon; left a long orange-white trailing firework streak; right a smaller white chrysanthemum burst; faint mid sparks. Low-angle: sombr looks up right pensive and serious; the woman leans her head on his shoulder and chest gazing the same direction; her right hand flat on his chest, gold ring visible. Overhead bird’s-eye: sombr right and the woman left lie side by side on their backs staring up at the camera — his right hand on his chest, her hands near her lap — light wrinkled blanket on dark grass and dirt, outdoor night. Sombr stands still eyes closed head slight tilt down somber and vulnerable — pale skin, voluminous messy curly dark hair — dramatic top-down chiaroscuro highlighting hair forehead nose-bridge cheekbones and collarbones, deep brow chin and chest hollow shadows, pure black void. Stone stairs into blown light. Glass party and the title card. YOU DON’T BELONG HERE on a Three of Diamonds. Plaster body escorted, crowd-surfed, taped and papier-mache’d. Gold tear. Diner noodles. Fireworks. Blanket under the night sky. Eyes closed in the black.
Somewhere in that stretch the hook lands: “If I could crawl out of my own skin, would you let me in?”
What sticks when the picture dies is the loop the camera already built — same rooms, same wardrobe returns, same motions it would not drop.
