Alright. First thing you see is a battlefield in a dark forest.
Post Malone is on one knee in full silver plate. Both hands on a longsword stuck in the mud. Arrows with red feathers stick out of the ground around him. A round metal shield sits in the dirt to the right with arrows through it. There’s a helmet and debris on the left. Bodies in armor lie further back in the mist. Light cuts through the trees in hard beams. Cool grey-blue grade. Quiet. Heavy.
You sit closer on that same kneel. Head bowed lower. Smoke drifts behind the armor. Same shield. Same red fletching. He’s not performing for the camera yet. He’s just there in the wreck.
Wide cut. A big twisted tree fills the left. Beyond it a clearing with shapes on the ground through haze. Forest floor junk. Soft overcast. No face. Just the place after the fight.
Tight on his face. Blood and dirt on the forehead, nose, cheeks. Top of the breastplate catches light. Soft red flare upper left. He looks down. Tired.
He stands and walks. Low white smoke around the legs. Dark woods. Full plate still clean enough to shine. Battlefield haze stays with him.
Cut to a fallen soldier face-up. Bloodied face. Cloth and leather, not plate. Soft trees behind. One body up close so you feel the cost.
Wide again through trunks into mist. More bodies. More debris. Thick air. Low contrast. Hard to separate people from ground.
Portrait. Blood and grime. He looks toward you or past you. That empty stare. Armor collar at the bottom of frame.
From behind now. He stands among arrows and bodies looking out over the smoke field. Silver armor against grey mist. Small in the wide.
Desolate landscape. Shields. Wreckage. Bodies on uneven dark ground. Hazy sky. No face to hold onto.
Extreme close. Head tilted down. Bright hazy wash. Blood on the skin jumps. Soft detail. Almost blown out.
Tree trunk. Thick. Gnarled. Dark bark fill. No talent. Just texture.
The movie shifts.
Outdoor camp or village feel. Two women in simple tunics — one blue-ish, one brown — attend someone lying on a wooden platform. Rolling hills. Heavy sky. Care after combat.
Wide camp. People in robes and rough clothes near wooden structures and carts. Bleak. Soft haze in the distance. Nobody rushing.
Close on Post in polished ornate silver. Face tattoos readable. Weary. Serious. Soft tents behind. This is where the hook can sit without forcing it — “Run away, but we’re running in circles”
He walks the camp in full armor. Poles. Canvas. Dusty ground. Soft daylight. People around but the frame stays on him moving through.
Night hits.
A line of figures with flaming torches stands behind a line of fire on the ground. Dark sky. Orange light hard on the silhouettes. Ritual energy. Still grounded — torches, fire line, bodies in a row.
He leads a dark horse through sparse wood. Leafless gnarled trees. Armor on. Cool day light. Quiet travel.
Wide landscape. Knight on horseback crosses grass toward rolling hills. Moody dark sky. Small figure. Big land.
Interior stone. A woman in a long dark gown stands by a bright arched window. Silhouette. Table nearby with a metal chalice and candles. Soft room light. Domestic pause inside the war story.
Scenic hold. Small figure in red at the edge of still water under a big dark tree. Quiet. Almost postcard, but cold.
Low in tall dry grass. Something dark half-hidden. Soft focus. Hedge what it is — object or figure, not clear enough to name hard.
Night again. Armored silhouettes with torches cross a field. Distant fires warm the horizon. March energy.
Fire fill. Swirling flame and embers. Orange yellow on black. Abstract. Pure heat.
Night wide. Lone figure mid frame. Roaring fire right foreground. Smaller fires along the horizon. Teal dark sky. Scale.
Medium on Post in darker metallic armor. Behind him, gaunt pale figures in shadow — zombie-like, thin faces. He looks forward. Somber. The threat stands in the same shot.
His face in the fire. Bright orange flame wall. High contrast. Black around. Title energy without a title card yet.
Very dark. A body or figure prone in murky woods or swamp at night. Moss. Damp. Low visibility — leave it soft.
Dark abstract. Vertical post left. Dark textured material right — leather or heavy fabric. Minimal.
Rectangular opening in a rough dark wall. Faint glow inside. Window or cutout. Portal feel without inventing a location name.
Dusk or dawn ridge. Knight on horse in silhouette. Thin orange line on the horizon under deep blue. Clean graphic.
Medium armor. He looks up. Weary. Cold blue twilight on hills behind. Face readable.
Ancient tree alone in a field. Huge. Twisted. Small fires or torches at the base warm the lower bark. Dim air.
Profile in deep shadow. Only forehead and nose catch light. Near black.
Low angle up into twisted branches. Small dark box nestled up there — lantern or birdhouse shape. Hedge the exact object.
Trunk close. Deep furrows. Rope or vine hangs straight down the center.
Night closer. Silhouetted rider left. The tree on the right glows orange yellow in the branches like embers. Deep teal sky. Dark hill in front. Same end image holding.
Title card lands on that hold. White **CIRCLES**. Boxed credits under: POST MALONE | CIRCLES, DIRECTED BY COLIN TILLEY, PM-3 2019.
That’s the picture from first kneel to last title.
Through the early forest walks the opening lines sit natural — “We couldn’t turn around” — and the next beat of the same thought — “Till we were upside down” — without turning the article into a lyric sheet.
When he walks the camp in the polished plate and the face is tired in that soft daylight, the dare lands clean — “I dare you to do something”
Later, when the fire wall takes the face and the frame goes almost pure flame, the release line fits the heat — “I got a feeling that it’s time to let go”
In the quieter interiors and the woman at the window, the cold honesty of the middle eight can ride without decoration — “But it was just the sex though, the sex though”
And when the horse crosses the big plain under that dark sky, the stuck loop of the chorus is already the whole video’s motion — “Run away, but we’re running in circles”
You’re watching a knight who won nothing you can celebrate. Battlefield. Camp. Torch line. Horse. Tree on fire at the end. Face bloodied early, armor bright later, same exhaustion the whole way. No joke in it. No bit. Just the walk through smoke, the camp care, the night fires, and the title on the glowing tree.
Stills every six seconds. Notes from those stills. Nothing invented off frame. When the swamp body is too dark, we say too dark. When the grass hide is soft, we say soft. When the box in the branches is unclear, we hedge.
Circles is that loop: kneel in the wreck, rise, walk the camp, ride the ridge, stand under the burning tree. Same man. Same plate. Same tired face. The song says the circle. The video shows you walking it.
Back to the open because the stills keep returning there.
Kneel. Sword in mud. Red fletching. Round shield with arrows through it. Helmet left. Bodies in the mist. God rays. That is still one and it sets the whole video. You do not need a caption to know the battle already happened.
Closer kneel. Same armor. Head lower. Smoke thicker behind him. You stay with the fatigue.
Tree trunk left, clearing beyond, body shapes in haze. Environment still. Cool air.
Face with blood. Soft red flare. Breastplate edge. Downcast.
Standing walk through white smoke. Woods dark. Plate shines anyway.
Fallen soldier close — cloth armor, bloodied face. One casualty made personal.
Wide mist clearing. Debris. Bodies. Hard to count them through the haze, so we do not invent a count.
Portrait stare. Shell shock. Collar of the armor.
From behind looking out over the field. Arrows in dirt. Smoke. His back to us.
Landscape wreck. Shields. Uneven ground. Hazy sky. Empty of a hero pose.
High-key face. Blood emphasized. Soft wash.
Bark close. Gnarled. No people.
Camp care: two women, tunics, wooden platform, overcast hills. Someone being tended. Aftercare.
Wide camp with carts and rough clothes. Soft distance. Slow day after violence.
Ornate silver close. Face tattoos. Weary. Soft tents. Performance look without a stage.
Walking camp. Dust. Poles. Soft daylight.
Torch line at night. Fire on the ground. Silhouettes. Orange.
Horse through leafless wood. Cool day. Lead rope energy — he leads the dark horse.
Plain ride toward hills. Small rider. Big sky.
Stone room. Woman at arched window. Chalice. Candles. Soft interior.
Red figure by water under dark tree. Quiet water.
Grass hide. Soft. Unclear. Left soft on purpose.
Torch march night. Horizon fires.
Flame abstract. Embers.
Lone figure, big fire right, distant fires, teal sky.
Gaunt figures behind him in medium. Pale. Thin. Same frame as his forward look.
Face in fire wall.
Prone in dark wet woods. Hedge.
Abstract post and dark fabric.
Wall opening with faint inner glow.
Ridge silhouette horse. Orange horizon line.
Looks upward in twilight blue.
Ancient tree with base fires.
Shadow profile.
Branches with small dark box. Hedge ID.
Trunk with hanging rope or vine.
Rider left, glowing tree right, teal sky. Title CIRCLES and Colin Tilley credit on the last hold.
That is the full still walk. Forest wreck. Camp. Night fire. Horse. Tree. Credits. Loop without a speech about meaning. You tell a person what you saw.
