Apartment begins in the shadows, with a man standing by a window with the blinds down. People gather at the door of a vintage camper. A birthday cake comes out, its candles lit. A young man in a white T-shirt leans in to blow them out. A man in a plaid shirt drives the van. Someone films it all on a handheld video camera.
Faded, home-movie style shots show the camper out on the road. The young man takes a bite of cake from someone's hand. A woman grins into the camera with cake on her lips. Two friends sit in a bathtub right inside the van while another films them. A woman laughs, sunlight on her face. A man leans his head out the window into the wind.
A man lies back with his hair falling over his face. Out in the desert, a shirtless man scrambles on rocky ground. Friends head toward water beside brown hills. They walk out across the sand to the lake. A young man lies on his back and sings to the sky. A man sitting in a bathtub inside the van laughs. The camper rolls through a golden field under a big blue sky. A woman leans out of the window, her hair flying.
Later, two friends sit together in the dim light of the camper. Friends laugh together in the dusk. A woman covers her face with her hands, laughing. The lit camper waits under a dark blue sky. A man in a blue shirt lies on the sand, squinting. A woman smiles in the last of the light. By morning, two friends are asleep together on the sand. Friends celebrate together in a cramped, cozy van.
